I Bet I Can Throw A Football Over Them Mountains
Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 12:01PM Since the dawn of humanity a vile and sinister force has been at work in the hearts and minds of males. (I cannot make the same statement about women because I have no experience being one.) This affliction grasps us at an early age and holds us in it's wicked talons up into adulthood. For myself the release is coming slowly and stealthily.
What is this foul malady I speak of? Pretty much every guy completely believes that if his family was killed in an accident and he was committed to a monastery in China for a few years of crazy exercises, calligraphy, and martial arts training, he could come back on some Jet Li shit and rule the world.
That's a general characterization. The details change but the core message is the same: Every guy thinks he can be the best at anything he tries, just give him the proper training.
How many times have you heard a guy second guess the actions of someone in a bad situation? It happens all the time. We all do it! I'm certainly guilty.
The point I'm meandering toward is that one of the most interesting aspects of 'growing up' is that you slowly lose these dreams of becoming Jet Li, Donald Trump, or Mario Andretti. It's somewhat comforting to be #2. You don't have to expend so much energy trying to make sure you are going to be ready when adversity calls.
Being sure that you will be available to rescue your girlfriend when she's abducted by terrorists, ninjas, or robots is a pretty cool feeling. I'm not sure that knowing you probably couldn't is a better feeling. It's certainly different.

I just happened across your blog from a comment you left on another and I must say I have enjoyed what I have read so far! And I must agree, I do not expect my potential mate to be able to save me from peril, but it is not the most comforting thought in the world to think I might be the one saving him!
I appreciate it. I think it's important for the women of the world to realize the problem we have and help us with it... Or at least tolerate us. ;)

Yeah, good luck with that one.

[...] A while back I told everyone my opinion that guys await their day to be Jet Li. There’s another guy-ism that I’m strongly opinionated about that I’ve neglected to write about: [...]
