A Note On Apple and Intel
Friday, June 10, 2005 at 11:11AM
Robert X. Cringeley is speculating that Apple and Intel are merging. That's not a rumor that I really have any clue about, but I did want to throw my opinion into the ring concerning why Apple might not have chosen AMD: chipsets.
Any of you know that Intel makes mobile chipsets? Centrino ring a bell? Intel's current 'Sonoma' chipset line marries a 2MB L2 Pentium M, 533Mhz FSB, DDR-2 533Mhz dual-channel RAM, SATA, 'HD' Audio, a myriad of connectivity options, and a/b/g wireless. What does the current powerbook line have? 166Mhz FSB, 333Mhz DDR, PATA, and addon wireless. I wonder if Intel's solution uses less power. Not sure what the draw for a G4 is.
