Things I Learned This Week


  • The German Luftwaffe invented the use of nitrous oxide in the combustion engine during World War II with the GM 1 system.

  • The white part of the egg is called albumin.

  • The guidance computer used by Apollo 11 had 8 kilobytes of RAM. 4K 16-bit words.

  • Russia has a Ministry of Extraordinary Situations. I see the utility in the organization but it sounds remarkably like something you'd hear in a Monty Python sketch.
