Frightfully Prepared
I like doing my taxes. Really. I do. So imagine my delight when I recieved my final pay stub of 2005 today. I immediately ventured to Quicken’s TurboTax online and used the YTD numbers for all my witholdings. Initially there was panic. Then I remembered to take out all my pre-tax dollars. A smile quickly returned.
J-dub informed me that he was skipping out on his laundry night when I was driving home, so I was suddenly without obligations for the evening. My preferred choice already had plans so I was resigned to catching up on some odds and ends around the house and watching Serenity. Imagine my excitement when I found my first mortgage bill in the mailbox upon my arrival home! The YTD numbers for interest and property tax allowed me do even more preparatory work on my taxes. Couple this with my bank’s ever present YTD interest information and I’ve got all the pieces needed to get a very good estimate on my taxes finished. (Note: I wish you could deduct PMI…)
The one depressing piece was that the ’standard’ sales tax deduction beat out my saved receipt total. I saved and totaled a year’s worth of receipts for naught. Shitty.
