Why Is It So Hard For Democrats To Win? (with Stem Cell Research Bonus)

Because every church is like a damned field campaign office pushing their ‘values’ agenda of intolerance and bigotry.

I can’t find the song at this time but Talib Kweli summed it up best with his lyrics: They used to ask you “Who’s your master?” / Now they askin’ “Who’s your pastor?”

I have no problems with what people believe. That’s your prerogative and I respect your right to do it. What disheartens me is that people will accept blanket statements as fact and not look into them.

I heard a story on NPR last week wherein people were asked about their views on embryonic stem cell research. So many people cited the destruction of embryos as a reason against this technology. I can’t speak to the true scientific benefits of this technology but I can recognize that taking issue with the destruction of embryos for scientific gain is a spot more logical when they are already going to be destroyed. Isn’t it horrible to waste this opportunity when we have already accepted that it’s O.K. for them to be destroyed? Isn’t this a bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water?
